Facing A Last-Minute Move? 4 Steps To Make The Process Easier

Posted on

There's nothing worse than planning a move. That is, unless you must plan a last-minute move. If a recent promotion has you moving much sooner than you anticipated, you're going to be busy getting everything in order. Luckily, there are a few steps you can take to alleviate some of the stress. Here are four simple tricks to take some of the work out of a last-minute move.

Unplug Your Refrigerator

If you're going to be moving quickly, the last thing you want to deal with is a leaky refrigerator. Unplug your refrigerator and clean it out. This will give your refrigerator the opportunity to dry out before you place it in the moving truck. If you have perishable food, either give it away or place it in an ice chest.

Gather Your Documents

Now that you're moving, you're going to need all your important documents in one convenient location. As soon as you know your move date, gather all your documents and place them in a secure location. If your documents will be traveling with you, place them in a lock box and set it next to the door. This will ensure that you grab the lock box as you head out the door for the last time.

Downsize

If you don't have time to pack everything you own, this might be a good time to downsize. Go through each room and create three separate piles. The first pile should be items that you're taking with you. Pack those items as you go along. The second pile should be items that you'll give away to friends or charity. The third pile should be items that you plan on discarding. Once you have your keep pile packed, move those items to the front room. Leave the discard and donate piles in each individual room until you're ready to get rid of those items. This will prevent discard items from getting mixed in with the items you intend to keep.

Call in the Cavalry

When it comes time to pack, don't try to do it all by yourself. This is when you need to call in your friends. Once they arrive, provide them with boxes and assign each friend a room to pack. This will allow you to take care of the details that need your attention while the rest of your belongings are taken care of.

Last-minute moves don't have to be chaotic. If you've been hit with a last-minute move, use the tips provided here to alleviate the stress. For professional assistance with your last-minute move, be sure to contact a professional moving company like Modern Movers, Inc.
